Carraro axle identification – type, drawing reference and parts catalog

Carraro Axle Identification: How to Find the Right Parts Catalog

Carraro axles, transfer boxes and transmissions are fitted to tractors, backhoe loaders, telehandlers and other machines from many manufacturers. When you need a seal, a bearing or a planetary gear, the machine maker's parts book often lists only the complete axle. To order the individual part you need the Carraro parts catalog for your exact axle, and to find it you need two things from the axle: the type and the drawing reference.

Type and drawing reference: the two numbers that matter

  • Type – the axle family, for example 26.16, 20.19, 26.22 or 28.43M. Transmissions and transfer boxes have their own types, such as TLB1, TLB2, TB172 or TB182.
  • Ref. (drawing reference) – a 6-digit number for one specific version, for example Ref. 138015. Within one type there are many versions with different ratios, brakes, hubs, steering cylinders and mountings, and each has its own reference and its own parts list.

The type narrows the search. The reference tells you which catalog is yours. Each Carraro catalog is published for one reference, sometimes for two or three closely related ones.

Where to find the numbers

  1. The identification plate on the axle or gearbox. Clean it carefully. Paint, rust and pressure washing make plates hard to read, so take a photo in good light before you scrub.
  2. The machine maker's documents. The parts book or dealer records for the tractor or loader often give the Carraro reference next to the axle or transmission.
  3. Old invoices and replaced parts. Earlier repairs may have been ordered with the reference number.

Write down every number on the plate, even if you are not sure what it means. It is much easier to discard a number than to go back and read the plate again.

How to read a Carraro catalog cover

Every Carraro spare parts list starts with the same cover. It tells you whether you have the right book before you look at a single drawing:

Carraro spare parts list cover for a 26.16 axle, Ref. 138015, with axle type, drawing reference, P/N and edition date marked
Cover of the 26.16 axle catalog, Ref. 138015: check the type and the reference against your axle.

Compare the type and Ref. on the cover with your axle. The edition and revision dates show how current the catalog is, and the P/N is the publication number of the catalog itself, not a part number.

How to read a Carraro parts table

Inside, the catalog is split into groups such as axle housing, swivel housings, differential, half shafts and epicyclic reduction gears. Each group has an exploded view and a table:

Carraro parts table TAB. 1.0.1 axle housing with Pos., Ref., Q.ty and description columns marked
A typical Carraro parts page: find the part in the drawing, read its position number, then its Carraro part number in the Ref. column.
  1. Find the part in the exploded view and note its position number.
  2. Look up that position in the Pos. column of the table.
  3. The Ref. column is the Carraro part number to order. Q.ty is the quantity per assembly.
  4. The description is given in Italian and English, so you can check you have the right line.
  5. Read the Note column. It holds remarks for that line, such as change references, and the Kit column shows parts that come as a kit.

Quote the Carraro part number together with the axle type and drawing reference when you order. Parts dealers can then confirm the part even if the number has been superseded.

Finding your catalog among 534 Carraro PDFs

Our Carraro parts catalog collection has 534 PDF catalogs. Most are axles. There are also axles with transfer box (for example 26.16M + TB172), transmissions, transfer boxes, reduction units and final drives. Every product title includes the type and the drawing reference, so the quickest way is to search for the number:

  • Have the reference? Search for it directly, for example 138015.
  • Only have the type? Search for the type, for example 26.16, 20.19 or TLB1, and compare the versions using the preview pages on each product.
  • Know the machine maker? Some catalogs are made for a specific manufacturer and say so in the title, for example 710-19 for Massey Ferguson or for Manitou.

A few common types and examples from the store:

Type What it is Example catalog
26.16 Axle Ref. 138015
20.19 Axle Ref. 132380
28.43M Axle Ref. 138111
26.16M + TB172 Axle with transfer box Ref. 138773
TB182 Transfer box Ref. 135100
TLB1 Transmission Ref. 138226

Frequently asked questions

What is the drawing reference (Ref.) on a Carraro axle?

It is the 6-digit number Carraro uses for one specific version of an axle, transfer box or transmission, for example Ref. 138015 for a 26.16 axle. Two axles of the same type can have different references and different parts, so the reference is what you need to find the correct spare parts catalog.

Is the axle type enough to order parts?

Usually not. The type, such as 26.16 or 20.19, names the axle family. Within one type there are many versions with different ratios, brakes, hubs and mountings, each with its own drawing reference. Use the type to narrow the search and the reference to choose the catalog.

Which language are Carraro parts catalogs in?

Most Carraro spare parts lists are bilingual, with Italian and English on the same page. Some are also in French or German. Every catalog in our store lists its languages on the product page.

My axle plate is missing. How do I identify it?

Check the machine maker's parts book or dealer records, which often give the Carraro reference. You can also compare the exploded views in our product previews with your axle. Or send us photos, the machine make, model and year, and we will help you find the matching catalog.
